Position Description

Do you love databases, SQL and computer science? This position may be for you. The PIMCO database team is looking for database expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with public cloud platforms on multiple database technologies. This position will work closely with various development groups across the firm to ensure our database platforms are scalable, reliable, and secure.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, build and automate scalable, performant, and secure database solutions for the firm.
  • Collaborate with our development teams to design, implement and operationalize data -driven applications and services.
  • Ability to solve difficult production issues quickly.
  • Work closely with various development teams across the firm to ensure proper use of features, best practices, and alignment to PIMCO database standards.
  • Implement security best practices to ensure data privacy and compliance.
  • Tune complex SQL proactively & reactively as required. Be able to rewrite SQL queries where necessary.
  • Optimize database performance and ensure high throughput, low latency, and high availability.
  • Design, implement, and maintain capacity planning for PIMCO database systems.
  • Develop disaster recovery and backup strategies to ensure database resilience and bu siness continuity.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in database engineering and public cloud platforms.
  • Drive initiatives to improve platform cost and performance efficiency.
  • Be a mentor for other database engineers on the team.
  • Willingness to work off hours/weekends as required.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience as a database developer or database engineer.
  • 10+ years of database development support & and SQL tuning experience.
  • Production experience supporting AWS and Snowflake data platforms highly preferred.
  • Experience with non-relational and/or columnar databases is a plus.
  • Experience with database migration and replication, specifically from Oracle database to public cloud.
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices.
  • Demonstrable record of accomplishment of SQL skills, infrastructure automation and database tuning on VLDBs.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Management Information Systems, or equivalent.
PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.

Salary Range: $ 150,000.00 - $ 225,000.00
